It’s been a while…

I know it’s been a while since our last blog post… If you follow our FB page, you know there’s been a lot going on over the past couple of months. So a quick update, then on to stories of some fantastic weddings of which we’ve been blessed to be a part.
A few months ago, our Studio Manager, Meghan and her husband moved to Colorado for Ian to pursue his commercial pilot’s license. While Meghan and Ian are dearly missed, we are excited for them in their new venture and pray that God will use them in an awesome way! (Selfishly, we’re also looking forward to a place to stay when we have the itch to go skiing;))
As a family, we have been doing great with Emma excelling in school and earning Junior Ranger patches at various national and state parks across the country. Her last patch was earned over Thanksgiving in Mississippi on the Gulf Coast. We are slowing down a little on travel and staying close to home for the Christmas season.
We’re currently in “Christmas card and print mode”, designing cards for so many beautiful families we’ve been able to photograph.
So enough about us! Leave us a comment and let us know how it’s going in your world…

Wedding Photographic Society Contest

We don’t enter contests very often, but entered the WPS competition last month.  There is a lot of talent in the WPS so we are very honored to have our images selected in the 5 contest categories.
A special thanks to each person in the images below as it was a blessing to capture these special moments.  Here are the winning images…  (You can click here to see all of the winning entries for the contest)

31 day creative ~ a photo a day for July

Come with us over the next 31 days in our photo-a-day creative…  We are inviting everyone to be inspired, inspire others, and have some fun with photography by taking a shot a day for the next 31 days.  We will announce each day on our facebook fan page (www.facebook.com/visiophotography) a different photo challenge.  Simply post on our wall a shot from your camera, point and shoot, camera phone, pinhole camera…  anything.  Some of the challenges are a little more abstract so I’ll post the complete list here for you to think ahead!  The only “rule” is that you actually shoot the shot on the day the challenge is listed.  Be sure to tell all of your friends and happy shooting!

our Garden of the Gods shoot | by meghan

Last October, James, Jen and Emma traveled with us to Colorado to shoot Ian’s sister’s wedding.  It was a lot of fun to ride to the airport together and meet up once in Denver (sadly, we couldn’t get on the same flight).

We tossed around the idea beforehand of doing a little “after-wedding” shoot for me and Ian, since we didn’t have too many portraits from our day.  So wedding clothes in tow, we made a day trip to Garden of the Gods in Colorado Springs.  It was fun to be models for a day,  although I think Ian and I need to work on our serious faces.

James and Jen remarked a few times how different it was to do a shoot in the west versus the south.  For instance, we walked around for 3+ hours in wedding clothes and maybe one person said “congratulations” whereas when James and Jen shoot here, people are waving, coming up to talk to the couple, etc.

I wanted to share some of the shots from that day.  We love them so much and feel so blessed to have had the opportunity to have these gorgeous images not only to keep, but be taken by such sweet (and talented) friends.

marry me under the big top

Weddings have changed a good bit over the past 20 years. Other than the menu, the ceremony, and decor, the weddings of yesteryear were fairly cookie cutter with the same basic elements. This is not so today!
With destination weddings, guest participation, planned weekend events, and themes, a wedding today can be as elaborate and detailed as your imagination can take you. Many items for themed events can be found at antique and second hand stores, borrowed from friends, or even DIY for a very handmade appeal. The most important part of a themed wedding is that it reflects you and your fiance, your personalities, and your relationship.
Today, I want to post a recent wedding theme styled by Wedding Festivals. You may remember “Wunderland” (click here for the post), a wedding theme we photographed last year. Well, today, we move to a place of games and tasty treats, of Carneys and amazing feats, come into the tent to “Marry Me Under the Bigtop”…

(Note:  Be sure to stay tuned for Wedding Festivals dates and times to see this theme in action.)
